Some Tips to Assemble Bicycle Trailer

We have been talking about bicycle rack , bicycle wheel , bicycle tips and also stroller. Now we are going to talk about bicycle trailer. Bicycle trailer has special function to carry two or three children or some goods. Some people design a bicycle trailer by themselves and use it as mobile storage behind their bicycle. Creating a trailer for our bike is an excited activity, if only you know the way. What if you do not know how to create a trailer? It will be abominable activity to do. But, do not worry. In this article I will give some simple steps how to create and assemble your own bicycle trailer.

Before starting to assemble, you should prepare the following tools

- Saw, you can use machine or manual saw. It is much better if you use machine saw, beside saving time, it also save your energy. But if impossible to get it you can use manual saw.

- Lumber

- Nail

- Hammer

- Glue and screw

- Used Carpet and used wheel size 16″

- Used foam rubber (optional)

After preparing those tools and equipment, you can start assembling your bicycle trailer now.

First Step

You can start the first step by building the main body, saw the lumber and use 4 pieces of 2 x 1 lumbers. A ladder type is the design by using 90 degree brackets and then screws them in. Now, you have made the box already, make sure that you have screwed it perfectly, if you are not sure you can use the nail to strengthen your box.

Second step

In the second step, you are going to assemble the wheel and set some properties with it. I assume that you have prepared the 16″ wheels for your bicycle trailer. You can use the recycled wheels, and then attach the wheels to the box by using electric box cover and bent it into shape.

Third step

Now, you will prepare to create bicycle trailer arm. You can use metal bar which is used by bicycle rack as the trailer arm, and then attach it. Next, bend it and cut into shape. Then drill the holes at the end. Last step at his section is by bolt it to the frame/box tightly.

Fourth Step

You are on the fourth step to assemble the bicycle trailer hitch

You can star by constructing the hitch first. Fold the electrical cover plate in half of the hitch. Then make a hole is enough, and then bolt it into the wheel of the bike. Next step, you can bolt an eye on the bracket. Or you may put an electrical tape at the eye of the bolt or remove the clanking noise which is unavoidable with this assembling. Use a U-clamp or called a shackle to connect the trailer arm to the eye of the bolt.

The Fifth Step

Assemble the cargo area, you star by screwing a piece of suitable sized and precut plywood to the top of the bicycle trailer frame. Add some screw eyes along the edges for bungee cords holding your cargo box stay at the place.

Test your bicycle trailer slowly and carefully. Remember, this is the first drive, so you must try it very carefully. Check and recheck if you feel something is not working well yet. And then test it again, and do some check again.
