A bicycle suspension is the system that is used at a bicycle to suspend the rider and all part of bicycle in order to protect them from roughness of the terrain over which they travel.  Why it called a bicycle suspension is because there are combining from several suspensions in a bike.  One of the combination between suspension front forks and rear suspension are referred as full suspension bikes.  Usually, this kind of bikes is used on mountain bikes, but sometimes, we can found it also on hybrid bicycles.  But before we decide to buy a bike with full suspension, we need to know first what type of terrain that you will be riding on.  If you are going to ride on a rough terrain or downhill, full suspension bicycle might be a better choice for you.  This combination between a suspension fork and suspension rear makes full suspension bikes  much more comfortable, enjoyable and handle roughness better.

Some people might not know and familiar with their own bicycle and very often neglect the maintenance activity needed for their bicycle. One of the most basic and important part is the bicycle fork. Bicycle fork is the part of the bicycle that clutches the front wheel and roles as the significant part for the rider to steer and balance the bike. It usually consists of two parts, called dropout, to hold the front wheel axle, two blades which is connected in the part named fork crown, and a steering tube allowing the rider to steer the bicycle.

Bicycle Suspension, Protecting Our Bike

Bicycle is a machine, exactly a transportation machine. And as a machine it contains a set of parts and components each with their own unique function. It can be categorized in three major sections. The main part is the Frame, which holds all the bike’s components and parts. It is the main part of the bike itself where every other component attached. The Frame consists of top tube, down tube, seat tube, seat stay, and chain stay. The other important part is the front set, which consists of handle bar grip, head tube, shock absorber, front brakes and fork. The other parts are the wheels, pedal and crank arm, chains, derailleur and many other small bike components.

But in this articles we will be only discussing about the bicycle suspension. First we go to the term itself. According to Wikipedia: “Bicycle suspension refers to the system or systems used to suspend the rider and all or part of the bicycle in order to protect them from the roughness of the terrain over which they travel.” Bicycle Suspension is primarily used on mountain bikes to protect its riders from the shock of hard terrain. But Bicycle Suspension is also common used in hybrid bicycles; sometimes some road bikes use it too.
