If you should see kids around your neighborhood riding around a unique bike that low to the ground with long front-end extended fork, then it must be a chopper bicycle! This unique chopper bike has become so popular these days among kids and adults. Despite its basic function as a transportation bike, this kind of bike is definitely designed to catch everyone attention with its “catchy’ looks. This chopper bicycle model got astonishing look that will catch anyone’s attention, with extremely low to the ground body height and long extended front fork. This will provide the crazy look as well as smooth comfortable ride. However, what is the chopper bike really is? Where did they come from?

Well the word ‘Chopper’ is generally used to mention a motorcycle or bicycle that has had some of its original parts replaced with custom parts, and in this ‘chopper bicycle’ case the parts replaced is to lower its body to the ground with extended long end front fork. Moreover, today’s definition has grown to mention custom motorcycles and bicycles with that kind of look. The word “chopper bicycle” becomes their main identity.

So where the lowrider chopper bicycles did comes from? As I mentioned earlier this model is a custom model by modification. Therefore, you can bet that they do not mass produced, although there are some brands are catching this market opportunity and produced their own chopper bicycle under their own brand. However, the first were seen in California in the 60′s, made by creative teenagers who are trying to copy the customized motorcycle of the time. The biggest inspiration I guess comes from Harley Davidson Chopper/Longtail series; by combining the components from several different bikes. This was the pure customized bike to show their individual uniqueness. One company that first noticed this trend was Schwinn where back in the 1963 they released their branded chopper bicycle, Stingray model. This model soon became so popular within the years then.

With the increase interest in all old things, people are going back retro! No doubt, this makes the popularity of chopper bicycle rise again within these few years. Many people would love and enjoy watching, riding and modifying the chopper bicycle that gives them the pleasure and their childhood good time memories. More people now affiliate themselves with many chopper bicycle groups around the world. In addition, Raleigh, one of the companies who first makes lowrider chopper bicycle has updated their chopper bicycle collection for today’s taste and you can bet that they  become so popular. Even some chopper bicycle enthusiast are prefer to built their own custom lowrider chopper bicycle with all types of their own customization, which is include paint jobs, ornaments, and even upholstery.  So, no doubt to look for this kind of bike at bicycle store !
