Kids’ Bikes Specification That You Should Know
By : Maxeka Lumuda
Kid likes to ride a bicycle while going to the garden or walking around the house yard. Kids’ bikes specification actually are not really different with adult’s bike, but some components allow them to use it easily and softer of course. Kids’ bikes brake or wheels usually have different form and texture. And when a kid’s bike is used by a kid, he or she should be able to use the brake easily without any spending too much energy, and to support that the kids’ bikes are equipped with soft wheels.
Safety and safety is the main reason to buy the right kid bikes. And in this article, I will explain about some kids’ bikes specification and components that are important so that we know what should we do before buying it, or what should we do when it need reparation.
Wheels
Kids’ bikes wheels play very important role in the safety while riding on any road texture. The wheel rims ideally should be made of an aluminum or metal alloy. Aluminum or metal alloy rims have better non skid properties. While testing the bike, the wheels itself should spin freely without touching or grating against any other bike parts. Steel or chrome rims should be avoided, for the reason; brake pads tend to be less abrasive on these surfaces when it is getting wet.
Kids’ bikes Size
It is much better if you choose the right size for your kid. But, don’t adjust the kid’s bike size with your kid’s age, because age does not describe how tall your kid is. The best way to adjust is by taking him with you to try the bike by him self, than ask him for comment. The right bike size is one on which your child can be comfortably seated on the bike seat with the feet just touching the ground. On placing their feet up on the pedals, their knees should not touch the handlebars. When seated, their hands should be easily able to reach the handlebars.
Brakes
Bicycle brakes are also one of the most important components of a kid’s bike. Hand Brakes are generally available on the older kids’ bikes, because they have stronger hand power to press the brakes. Kids’ bikes typically have coaster brakes, which are engaged by pedaling the bike backwards. You should make sure that the brakes are functioning well, and not creaking or grating against anything.
The Bike Chain Guards
Kids’ bikes chain guards typically cover the chain of the bike. They are very useful to prevent jean/pant legs, shoe laces from getting trapped in the chain. A good chain guard should completely cover the chain, and the chain should move smoothly within the guard. These pointers should be followed closely while choosing a bike for your kid.
Bike Frame
The frame of kids’ bikes should be made of relatively strong and sturdy components. You can do an alignment check to see if the front and back wheels are in the same plane as the frame.
Another point you should note is that it is a better idea if you buy a bike from a bike shop instead of a department store. Because the bike shop is more likely to be aware of the technicalities of the bike, replacement parts, servicing and other factors which may not even occurred by the salespeople in the department stores.
