Raleigh Bike and Its History

Raleigh bike or known as Onta bike (Javanese) was produced at the first time in Nottingham, England. And the most impressive thing is you can still find this bike today, even it has been developing to USA, Denmark and the other country in West Europe and also Africa. Raleigh bike Company is the oldest bike company in the world; this company had also produced motorcycles and three wheels cars in about 1929 until 1935. The history of Raleigh bike is immortal and will be different story of the original bike’s story that ever existed.

The history if the Raleigh bike was started in 1886s, when at that time, three England person Angois, Messrs Woodhead and Ellis started some business to sell bicycle at their small workshop that was located at Raleigh Street, Nottingham. At that time, they have produced three bikes per week. In the 1887, Frank Bowden who was 38 years old bought a bike which was made by Woodhead, Angois and Ellis. Bowden bought that bike because was advised by his Doctor to ride bike for his health. Bowden has bought a bike, but not so long later, he decided to offer the business of Woodhead, Angois and Ellis in 1888. The purchase had made the business grow and recruited more employees to work in the factory. After that, the production raised up until 9 bikes for a week.

To expand the business, Bowden bought a place in Russel Strett, Nottingham. And then he changed the name of the business into Raleigh Cycle Company according to the Street name and the first factory of his business started. In many countries, Raleigh bike becomes so expensive. A classic bike like Raleigh bike has become a commodity and business opportunity. In Indonesia for example, you cannot buy a Raleigh bike just with $10.000, can you imagine how expensive this bike is. You must pay a Raleigh bike for $20.000, it is the cheapest one, and you are so lucky if you can find someone who wants to sell the bike. It is not easy to persuade the owner to sell the Raleigh bike. They will say that the memory of the bike is more expensive than the money.

Raleigh bike has unique form and structure; you will not find the same bike today which is still producing from the company. Even you cannot find the part in the store anymore. This is the reason why the owner of Raleigh bike does not want to sell it. The value is more expensive, me myself do not know what value that they mean, but as you can read today, people must spend more than $20.000 just to get the old Raleigh bike.

In other hands, there are also another brand except Raleigh bike, but the brand and its unique point has raised up the value and the price at the same time. Raleigh bike is an example portrait for the priceless old collection. The memory and the value is nonnegotiable price by any body from any country. However, you can try, who knows it is your lucky day.
